These Shoes Were Made For Walking

I am sorry that my posts have been more sparatic than usual. I have been sick, busy at work and out chasing dreams. I promise they will get more regular once my life becomes a little more regular lol.
As many of you know, I am a major bargain hunter! There is no bigger rush than finding an amazing deal. I have been looking for a pair of chunky heels for forever. I was in Winners the other day and saw these shoes on the Clearance rack. Unfortunately I noticed them at the same time as another gal AND there was only one pair left! I literally sprinted to them...and won the race. Thank God for my elementary school days in track and field ;)

As I picked the pair up just praying for a size 7, I noticed they were 7 1/2...I can work with that. I was expecting them to be at least $30-$40. Nope...$18!! I couldn't believe my eyes.

I know they are open toed and we are entering fall/winter fashions but luckily with my Dad's new place in Palm Springs and my friends December wedding in the Dominican Republic, these beauties will get a lot of use. They look perfect with a pair of jeans, dressy shorts or a skirt. And yet again...I fall in love.

You Can't Beat Free

Unfortunately I have not been painting for a bit, however I just delivered some of my furniture to a new shop called Frilly Lilly in Yaletown, Vancouver. The lovely owner Alana has promised to send me some 'after' photos once all of the pieces are settled in their new home. I can't wait to see the pictures and share them with all of you!

Until then, I wanted to share my coffee table makeover. When my boyfriend was moving out of his bachelor pad and into our love nest, he found an unclaimed coffee table. Since there had been several bachelors come and go over the years, someone had simply left it behind.I have a love for all things abandoned plus you can't beat free... so off to its new home it went! I was so happy with my new free coffee table that I forgot to take a before picture but the picture above is pretty close.

It had several scratches and dings from its wild bachelor days so I had to give it a good sand and priming. I am considering painting my kitchen cabinets which are laminate so I thought this would be a good project to try out Melamine paint.

I learnt that the paint took forever to dry but boy is it durable! I wanted the table to go nicely with my beachy bar stools so I didn't do any distressing. I finished it by lightly sanding and varathaning.

Down By The Sea

I spent this past weekend cruising through the Vancouver harbour for my friends stagette. The sun was shining, the water was glistening and it was a nautical theme....I was in my element!

I had ordered a pair of anchor earrings from Lisa at Jeweled Ambrosia for my friend a while back and loved them so much, I ended up ordering myself a pair too! I just knew they would work perfectly for the nautical themed stagette. I religiously checked my mailbox, eagerly anticipating their arrival. Unfortunately I didn't receive them in time. But....

The day I got home I had these beauties waiting for me, wrapped in a cute little sparrow stamped box. So worth the wait :)

I was so happy to see that nautical stripes are in this season. I don't know what it is about anchors but I love so much.

I was unwrapping my earrings from the tissue paper like a little girl on Christmas when these beauties rolled out. I thought that it must have been a mistake but to my amazement and delight, Lisa told me they were a gift for being a repeat customer. Thank you so much Lisa. I love love love them!

Music Feeds My Soul

When I first saw this piece, I didn't realize that it was a record player. Even though I don't exactly have any need for a record player, I just couldn't resist the $20 price tag. I thought my boyfriend was going to roll his eyes at this one but he was actually so excited!


I painted, distressed and picked the hardware but this was definitely my boyfriend's project. He is an electrician who lives for music so he was totally in his element on this one. It was so neat to see him so involved and into a project.


He decided to spruce up the old record player with new speakers and new wiring. It now even plays our iPods!

I decided to go with a very light grey paint and went a bit heavier on the distressing. I love how the white primer shows through slightly.

I chose these dainty antique handles to give it a bit of a feminine touch. I was amazed at how well they went with the shape of the piece.

I was originally thinking of a lighter fabric for the speakers but my Mister chose this and I ended up loving it!
